Katie is a passionate communicator and writer, believing in the power of storytelling and relationships to connect and empower diverse groups of people. She currently serves as the lead Communications Specialist on the Social Responsibility and Public Affairs team at Laureate Education, Inc., working to tell the diverse stories of social impact from across Laureate’s 28 country network, while also supporting those activities. Possessing a background in journalism and creative writing, she has coupled that skill set with experience working with a variety of non-profits and social enterprises addressing a range of causes. While studying journalism at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, Katie continued to report on a variety of social justice causes, writing about social enterprises in Kolkata, India helping women leave prostitution and about organizations providing low-cost medical services in rural Nicaragua. She then went on to work for Amnesty International’s office in Buenos Aires, Argentina, helping with their press and issue-area strategy. While in high school, Katie co-founded and led an anti-slavery movement in her native Cincinnati that grew to include over 3,000 local and regional high-schoolers and engaged and supported international anti-slavery organizations like the International Justice Mission and the Restavek Freedom Foundation in Haiti. Katie graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 2015, with a focus in Magazine Writing, and minors in Creative Writing and Religious Studies. She currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland.
