Paula R. Singer is the first Chief Network Officer (CNO) of Laureate Education. As CNO she is responsible for establishing the Laureate Network Office (LNO) and achieving its mission of executing on the power of the Laureate International Universities network to be a distinct advantage for the organization and a disruptive force in higher education. In this role, Ms. Singer extends collaboration, innovation, and best practices of faculty and staff throughout the 80 institutions of higher education in 28 countries that are part of the Laureate International Universities network for the benefit of the more than one million students enrolled at a Laureate institution. Under her leadership, the LNO is supporting and strengthening the quality education offered by Laureate institutions, focusing particularly on digital teaching and learning, academic excellence, student success and career readiness, and category management for global verticals such as health sciences and engineering.

Ms. Singer has served in a number of executive leadership roles since joining Laureate Education, Inc. (formerly Sylvan Learning Systems, Inc.) in 1993. She most recently served as the president and CEO of Laureate Global Products and Services, where she led Laureate’s portfolio of international online institutions and offerings, U.S. campus based institutions, and worldwide institutions in hospitality management and art and design. Ms. Singer also led all Laureate online postsecondary businesses and the company’s entry into the postsecondary education market with the acquisition of Canter & Associates in 1997.

Prior to joining Laureate, Ms. Singer was the president of Sylvan Education Solutions (now Catapult Learning), where she led the educational support services division. Ms. Singer formerly held several senior positions at American Learning Corporation, a subsidiary of Encyclopedia Britannica, including vice president of marketing, executive vice president of operations, and general manager. Early in her career Ms. Singer was a K-12 teacher and reading specialist focused on struggling students in the nation’s inner city schools.

Ms. Singer is also the co-founder of the Nurturing Nest Montessori School, which is located in Maryland and is affiliated with the American Montessori Society, the International Montessori Council, and Montessori Schools of Maryland.

Ms. Singer earned a B.S. in Education from the University of Connecticut, where she was the first education major to be selected for the prestigious University Scholar program. She also holds an advanced certificate as a Montessori teacher from the American Montessori Society.

In 2004, Ms. Singer was recognized as one of five Enterprising Women in Maryland by the Baltimore Business Journal. She was named one of “Maryland’s Top 100 Women” three times by the Maryland Daily Record, earning her induction into the publication’s prestigious “Circle of Excellence.” She also was named one of the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland’s Distinguished Women of 2009 and is the recipient of a 2009 Leader Award from the YWCA of the Greater Baltimore Area. In 2013, Ms. Singer was named the University of Connecticut’s “Outstanding Alumni of the Year.”

Ms. Singer is an advisory board member of the Johns Hopkins University School of Education and an advisor for the Board of Directors of Business Volunteers Unlimited. She served on the Goucher College Board of Directors for six years and was chair of the National School Board Foundation early in 2000. She also served for six years as the secretary and executive committee member of the board of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School. Ms. Singer has long been an advocate for the United Way and its commitment to improving local communities and the quality of life for children.
